Lucky Jefferson Internship

A series of editorial illustrations created during my internship with Lucky Jefferson, a literary journal celebrating diverse voices and experimental storytelling. These works explore visual narratives inspired by contemporary poetry and creative writing.

The Bus Driver’s Dragon
Inspired by a poem about a young immigrant child who accompanies their father, a bus driver, through long city routes. In the child’s eyes, the bus becomes a dragon — strong, protective, and full of wonder. This illustration celebrates the quiet heroism found in everyday life and the boundless imagination that turns reality into myth.

Inspired by a poem that reflects the tension between love and identity, this piece explores what it means to exist authentically in a world that often rejects queerness. The underwater setting evokes Lethe — the river of forgetfulness — symbolizing both surrender and unity, as two figures intertwine in quiet defiance and tenderness.

Hi-Buddy Postcard
Created in collaboration with hi-buddy.org and Lucky Jefferson, this postcard was inspired by the Indigenous heritage of the Chicago region. The piece reimagines traditional symbolism through a modern lens, honoring ancestral culture while celebrating connection, storytelling, and creative exchange across communities.

Series of illustrations created for Lucky Jefferson’s About page.
They visually translate the spirit of the magazine — creativity, community, and the magic of storytelling.
